Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Dental Hygienist See Patients Without a Dentist?
Yes. In Ontario, registered dental hygienists can provide many preventive oral health services independently, including examinations, dental cleanings, periodontal therapy, oral cancer screenings, fluoride treatments, sealants, whitening services, and oral health education.
If treatment is required beyond the scope of dental hygiene practice, a referral to a dentist or specialist may be recommended.
Do You Accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), ODSP, Healthy Smiles, and Private Insurance Plans?
Yes. Sevens Dental Hygiene Care accepts eligible patients covered under all plans.
Coverage levels and co-payments vary depending on your income and the services being provided. We can help review your benefits and explain any costs before treatment.
Do You Offer Direct Billing to Insurance?
Yes. We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers whenever possible.
Patients are responsible for any portion not covered by their insurance plan, including deductibles, co-payments, or services not included in their coverage.
Do You Provide Mobile Dental Hygiene Services?
Yes. Mobile dental hygiene services may be available for individuals who have difficulty travelling to a clinic due to age, disability, illness, or mobility concerns.
Please contact us to discuss your needs and determine whether mobile services are available in your area.
How Often Should I Have My Teeth Cleaned?
The frequency of dental hygiene visits varies from person to person.
Many patients benefit from professional care every six months, while others with periodontal disease, implants, heavy tartar buildup, or certain medical conditions may require more frequent visits.
A personalized recommendation will be provided based on your oral health needs.
Does Teeth Whitening Hurt?
Most patients experience little or no discomfort during whitening treatment.
Some temporary tooth sensitivity may occur, particularly in patients who already have sensitive teeth. This sensitivity typically resolves shortly after treatment.
We can recommend products and techniques to help minimize sensitivity.
Will Whitening Work on Fillings, Crowns, or Veneers?
Whitening products work on natural tooth structure but do not change the colour of fillings, crowns, veneers, or bonding materials.
If existing restorations no longer match your natural teeth after whitening, replacement or adjustment may be discussed with your dental provider.
What Is Periodontal Therapy?
Periodontal therapy is a specialized form of dental hygiene treatment focused on managing gum disease.
Treatment may include deep cleaning below the gumline, removal of plaque and tartar deposits, oral hygiene instruction, and ongoing maintenance to help support gum health.
Do I Need a Referral?
No referral is required to book an appointment with an independent dental hygienist.
Patients may contact us directly to schedule an appointment.
What Should I Expect at My First Appointment?
Your first appointment may include:
Review of your medical and dental history
Oral cancer screening
Examination of your teeth and gums
Assessment of periodontal health
Discussion of concerns and goals
Professional cleaning if appropriate
Treatment recommendations will be personalized based on your oral health needs.
